Choosing to invest in solar is a big step – so it’s important to do your homework. If you’re looking into solar options for your home, here are some important things to know to help you make an informed decision. Just like any major purchase for your home, quality counts and it’s important to shop around and understand what’s included, such as solar installation costs.

Considering finance?

Just as with any major purchase, always consider your finance options carefully before you commit to anything. Many solar installers offer “no interest” finance – and if that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

What to expect on installation day

Here’s a quick guide to what you might expect to see when your system gets installed.

On the day of installation, your install team will arrive and set up the site so it’s safe to work. They should confirm the layout and location of your solar panels, inverter and battery (if installing) with you.

Your roof will be prepared and mounting for your solar panels will be installed. System wiring is connected, including switchboard connection DC cables from the panels to the inverter, mounting the inverter on the wall and securing system safety isolators.

Your solar panels will be secured to the railings and your inverter is installed in the agreed location, usually in your garage.
Everything should be tested by your installation team to ensure all parts are safely installed and working correctly.

You should then be given a demonstration of your system, including any programs or monitoring apps.
