Energy Ahead is a free program available to Synergy residential customers who are experiencing financial stress. Our program offers energy coaching, and access to friendly tailored energy advice for you to understand and manage your home’s energy usage.
We’ll work with you to understand your household’s energy use and find simple ways to manage it. Additionally, when you take part in Energy Ahead, you might get some free energy efficient items – like a pedestal fan, heated throw, clothes airer or LED globes – all to help you save energy by switching to more budget-friendly options.
Energy Ahead will support you to improve the energy efficiency of your home, which could result in a reduction in your electricity bill. Think of it as a helpful energy check-up – just for you and your home, to make things a little easier.

Your Energy Coach can support you at home, over the phone or online – whatever works best for you.
In-Home Audit
One of our friendly Energy Coaches will provide an in-home audit to help you understand and manage your energy use.
You will receive a report with customised tips on how to reduce your use along with various energy efficiency items to get you started.
Energy Coaching and Virtual Audit
Our Energy Coaches can also provide virtual audits which require you to have an active internet connection and a mobile or tablet with a camera.
Energy Coaching and Phone Audit
Energy coaching is a practical way for you to learn more about your household energy use and how you can make positive changes to reduce use and costs.
We provide coaching sessions over one or two Synergy bill cycles and a report with customised tips.
Community Workshops
We run community workshops to help you understand and manage your household energy use.

The Energy Ahead team will contact you to discuss your needs and identify the service options that work best for you.
Your Energy Ahead coach will support you in mapping your household energy usage, pinpoint ways you could save and provide you with the tools and tips to achieve your goals.
This program is a collaborative initiative with the WA Government and Synergy, with Financial Wellbeing Collective (Anglicare WA) delivering the program to December 2025.

- Who funds Energy Ahead?

Energy Ahead is a $10.8 million commitment of the Western Australian Climate Policy and is delivered in the South-West Interconnected System (SWIS) by Synergy and the Financial Wellbeing Collective.
- Am I eligible to have an Energy Coach visit me to help me?

If you are a Synergy residential customer and have an account in your name and are happy to give your consent to the program, visit thefwc.org.au/energyahead to apply.
- What areas do you cover?

The service is available for in home audits, virtual or phone coaching throughout the SWIS region from Kalbarri in the north to Albany in the south and Kalgoorlie in the east.
- I am not comfortable with someone coming into my home to do an energy audit. Is there any other way?

Yes, we can discuss this and arrange a virtual audit or a series of phone coaching sessions. Coaches can guide you through the process to obtain the information they need.
- Will you be going in to all the bedrooms during the visit?

We will only go where you are comfortable. Our Coaches are flexible and are there to help you.
- I cannot be home during 9am – 5pm. Can you come after or before that time?

The Energy Ahead service operates Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. You, or an authorised representative, need to be at home at a time of your choosing during these hours or available for a series of phone coaching sessions.
- What should I expect from an Energy Coach if I register?

Our trained Energy Coaches are understanding and compassionate and want to support you to reduce your electricity bills in a way that works for you and your needs.
- Will I get help with my power bill?

Your Energy Coach will be able to directly assist with tips and information to help you better manage your energy use to help reduce your power bill.
