Decorator delight as Synergy names Xmas Lights Trail competition winners

Synergy is delighted to announce the winners of Western Australia’s best Christmas lights displays in the 2022 Synergy Xmas Lights Trail competition.

The winning homes in each of five categories, including the best regional and solar Christmas light displays, will share in $6,500 worth of prizes.

This year Synergy is supporting Ruah Community Services during their Tree of Light, powered by Synergy Christmas appeal to help those experiencing homelessness, family and domestic violence, and mental health challenges.

Gabe and Cindy Trejo’s display in the Perth northern suburb of Brabham has been named winner in the People’s Choice Award category and will receive a $2,500 credit towards their Synergy electricity account.

Known locally as ‘the Christmas House’, the Trejos’ winning display picked up over 900 public votes to win the top prize amongst hundreds of entrants.

Gabe said his family decorated their home with over 500 lights, inflatable Christmas decorations and spectacular visual effects for the community’s enjoyment and to raise money for good causes.

“We love decorating each year as part of the Synergy Xmas Lights Trail to see the joy it brings to kids and adults, as well as to support those in need,” Mr Trejo said.

“In 2021 we asked for food donations for a local charity and this year we set up our own fundraiser with Beyond Blue.”

Synergy Chief Executive Officer David Fyfe said he was delighted to reward decorators who went the extra mile to connect the WA community and assist decorators to support others in need.

“Synergy is proud to help make Christmas a little brighter for those facing difficult times through our partnership with Ruah Community Services,” Mr Fyfe said.

“Each decorator has supported raising funds or awareness for the Ruah Tree of Light, powered by Synergy Christmas appeal while also able to support their own choice of worthy causes.

“The Synergy Xmas Lights Trail is a celebration of local community and I congratulate all decorators for their efforts this year.”

The winners in each 2022 Synergy Xmas Lights Trail decorator category are:
People’s Choice Award – Best Lights Display: Cindy & Gabriel Trejo, Brabham
Best House – South of the River: Wendy Austin, Baldivis
Best House – North of the River: Giuseppe Sorgiovanni, Morley
Best Solar Light Display: Mario Carboni, Alexander Heights
Best Regional Lights Display: Mary Kartesz-Wardroper, Meadow Springs

The winners and their decorated homes will be listed on the Synergy Xmas Lights Trail, which connects the community through the best light displays across WA, while supporting Ruah Community Services Tree of Light powered by Synergy Christmas Appeal.
