2021 price changes

Are business electricity prices changing?

Yes. The State Government has approved price changes to regulated business tariffs effective 1 July 2021. Synergy has worked hard to keep increases to Synergy's tariffs, fees, and charges as low as possible for our business customers.

When will price changes come into effect?

Changes to tariffs will take effect on 1 July 2021, subject to relevant legislation taking effect by that date. All new tariff rates are published at The changes to the regulated electricity tariffs, fees and charges are effective from 1 July 2021.

The DEBS buyback rates changes are effective from 1 November 2021. Prices changes are detailed at

Why do electricity business tariffs change?

Regulated electricity tariffs are reviewed and determined by the State Government. They review changes to the costs of providing electricity and set the retail tariffs each year. Synergy is committed to ensuring its supply costs are efficient to put downward pressure on retail prices.

In unprecedented times like these, Synergy has tried to keep its costs as low as possible, to reduce financial stress on our customers. We are committed to helping our customers to better manage their energy use and offer a range of concessions and support services to help customers stay on top of their electricity costs.

Are gas prices likely to increase?

ATCO’s regulated gas distribution charges were updated in January 2021. You would have received a communication regarding this if your business was impacted. Please contact your account manager if you would like to discuss this further.

How is Synergy assisting customers to manage these increases?

We know that times are tough at the moment, which is why Synergy is doing everything possible to reduce the financial stress on WA businesses and charities.

If your business is needing more help or support, Synergy offers services to assist you in managing your business's electricity use and costs. We can also help you with more long-term energy saving solutions, including commercial solar solutions for your business.

Has there been a change to my business's solar buyback rate?
The non-residential Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme (REBS) rate remains unchanged at 7.1350 cents per kWh.
Is the NaturalPower contribution changing?

Each year we review the rate you pay for your Synergy NaturalPower contribution. The rate you pay for your NaturalPower contribution will change effective from 1 July 2021.

The price Synergy pays for Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) will increase from 1 July 2021. This means the price that you pay per unit of NaturalPower energy will increase by 13.24%.

Synergy’s NaturalPower represents a contribution paid by you (separate from the standard retail tariff) that is used to purchase RECs from nationally-accredited GreenPower renewable energy sources, helping your business to work towards becoming carbon neutral. Renewable energy purchased by Synergy is then fed into the electricity grid, where it mixes with energy produced from non-renewable sources before being supplied to you.
