Hot day hacks
The next few days will be heating up and there are times when only the air conditioning will do. Other times, you can be creative and beat the heat without causing a spike in your energy use. Here are some hot day hacks to help you chill out in pretty cool ways.
Go to the beach
In some parts of the world, people are shovelling snow right now and dreaming of a summer holiday. Here we are sitting right next to some of the best beaches in the world. Grab your swimming gear and sun protection, pack a picnic and water bottle, throw a beach umbrella or tent in to BYO shade and enjoy a day splashing in our incredible Indian Ocean.
Go for a swim
If you have a pool and it spends the cooler months as a giant leaf-catching pond, now is the time to not just clean it up and use it, but share it. Invite friends or family over for a catch up and a swim – you’ll be helping them save energy at their own houses too. If you don’t have a pool, it’s time to make friends with those neighbours over the road who do have one!
Staying hydrated can help you cope with the heat a lot better. You might break out your new cocktail shaker to crush some ice, add a twist of lemon or garnish your water with fresh mint from your herb garden.
Have a BBQ
Did you get any handy new BBQ accessories in your Christmas stocking? Leave the oven off, head outdoors and put your BBQ to work. Even better, invite friends or neighbours over to join you! You could throw a shrimp on the barbie but if shrimp isn’t your thing, try steaks, marinated chicken or vegetable and haloumi skewers for vegetarians.
Shoot the breeze in the breeze
Our sea breeze is one of the most effective cooling mechanisms we have in WA – and it’s available for free! Get out into it.
Eat ice cream
From sundaes in Subi and freakshakes in the city to frozen yoghurt in Freo, there’s no shortage of places to find some amazing frozen treats at this time of year. Make it your mission to find the best ice cream in Perth – then share your findings with your Instagram and Facebook friends and followers!
