Annual Light Up Leederville Carnival powers on again with renewable energy

Light up Leederville

Synergy will power this year’s Light Up Leederville Carnival with renewable energy as it supports the exciting community event on Sunday 6 December 2015.

The Light Up Leederville Carnival brings more than 250 market stalls, music, fashion, art and free entertainment to the area and attracts tens of thousands of people.

All of the energy requirements for the carnival will be met through renewal energy sources such as a cycling station that generates power from people pedalling bikes, a wind turbine, solar panels and eight generators fuelled by locally sourced biodiesel.

Synergy manager marketing and communications Krystal Skinner said Synergy valued the opportunity to be an active participant in local Perth communities.

“As one of WA’s most essential organisations, we have a leading role to ensure a positive, lasting impact in areas we live and work and we’re proud we can support community initiatives like these,” Ms Skinner said.

“Synergy is committed to embracing technological change, using renewable energy sources and reducing Australia’s carbon footprint, and this event is an example of our commitment and direction,” she said.

“Our sponsorship of the Light Up Leederville Carnival highlights the many alternative sources available when it comes to generating power. It showcases some of the offerings Synergy is providing to Western Australians giving more choice and control when it comes to energy solutions,” Ms Skinner said.

“Equivalent to 2000 megawatt hours which can power 200 LED downlights, Synergy’s contribution will see renewable energy sources powering all of the carnival’s temporary structures, stalls, food vendors, entertainment and activities on the day, including the special after dark Leederville christmas lights.”.

Carnival-goers will be invited to pedal one of the 10 bikes on the ‘PeoplePower’ stage to provide lighting, sound and other electrical sources the performance area requires. To follow Synergy throughout the event use #leedylights on social media.

The Light Up Leederville Carnival offers free entry and will be held from 12noon to 9pm within the heart of Leederville. Stalls and activities will be positioned along Carr, Newcastle, Oxford and Vincent Streets.
