Q: What is REBS?
- REBS stands for Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme. It is a way you can earn money by selling renewable energy you don't need, back to Synergy. So if you are generating renewable power from a wind, solar, or hydro system installed at your home, then REBS could apply to you.
|
Q: How does REBS work?
You can apply for REBS if your property has a wind, solar, or hydro power system installed and it is connected to the main power grid through a compatible meter.
During times when your system produces more power than you need, the excess power can be fed back into the grid. We buy at a flat buyback rate of 7c kWh for residential customers. If you’re on a green energy option, our payment to you doesn’t include the premium.
There is no set amount of schedule for selling your excess power. So if your system isn't generating enough energy, you don't have to sell any power at all. You can also draw extra power from your back-up battery or the main grid whenever you need it.
|
Q: How do I switch to REBS?
Before you contact us to sign-up to REBS, check to see your renewable energy system is connected to your main power supply, and that your property has a compatible digital or SmartPower electronic meter. If you don't have a compatible meter, you can ask us to install a new SmartPower meter.
Then, simply complete this application and you could start making money with virtually no effort at all.
It should be noted that whilst Synergy has a Photovoltaic solution available to customers, purchasing a renewable energy system from Synergy is not a prerequisite for participating in the Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme. Customers are encouraged to obtain a number of different quotes from a range of suppliers.

Q: What is Feed-in tariff?
The net feed-in tariff scheme is a subsidy designed to encourage the installation of residential renewable energy systems. The subsidy (called the net feed-in tariff rate) is paid per unit of net electricity exported to the electricity grid from eligible systems.
