What is SmartPower?
SmartPower is an optional product that allows you to take advantage of variable electricity rates, depending on the time of use. By using power in the cheaper time periods, you can save on your electricity bill. To take advantage of the SmartPower rates, you will need to have a SmartPower compatible meter. To learn more about SmartPower you may want to read the SmartPower Brochure.
How does SmartPower work?
With SmartPower, there are four different periods of time when electricity costs vary: peak, off peak, weekday shoulder and weekend shoulder. See the graphs below for details of when each period applies. This chart shows the time period for Western Standard Time. See below for the time period during the days of daylight saving.

The SmartPower meter records the amount of consumption and the period of time when your electricity is used. The rate applicable at the time of day is then charged instead of the usual flat rate of 13.94 cents/kWh*.
SmartPower rates are lower than the current standard residential A1 price between 9pm and 7am weekdays and all weekend. In addition to the energy consumption charges, a supply charge of 25.57* cents per day applies. The same supply charge applies to the current standard residential A1 price and SmartPower prices.
* All prices quoted above include GST and became effective from 1 October 2007. Prices subject to change at any time.
During Daylight Saving
Times in the graphs above are Western Standard Time not Western Summer Time (ie when daylight saving applies in Western Australia). The following SmartPower periods apply during Western Summer Time.

How can I save with SmartPower?
SmartPower can help you reduce your electricity bill if you're not at home using electricity during the day on weekdays, or if you can shift your usage to between 9pm and 7am weekdays or to anytime on the weekend.
The amount you can save all depends on your ability to shift your electrical usage to the cheaper off-peak times.
Try using these and other appliances in off-peak periods to save your money:
*You may need to have a timer fitted by a licenced electrician.
